"girls just want to have fun" nails! - WEEK 1, START!

Ohhh man, it has been a while!
After breaking a nail on my birthday, it was time to say goodbye to my claws for awhile. My nails were literally deteriorating, yuck! Sooo here I am, two unpleasant months later with a new set  of claws which means..PICTORIALS! Now who doesn't love pictorials? Less talking, more pictures! ...only four pictures that is. LOL

Today is a special day because I decided to start the "31 day nail art challenge"! But instead of 31 days, lets make it 31 weeks because ain't nobody got time for that!!

This week's challenge! - red nails
"girls just want to have fun"
my apologies for the bad quality and lighting.

& why do I call it "girls just want to have fun"?

As I was in the midst of painting this design, which I am definitely sure someone had already done it before, my good friend Shelley was telling me about her makeup piece she did years ago at ABA (Allied Beauty Association). She showed me tons of photos of different themes and art perfectly drawn on model's face and body and I was blown away. So many talented people! I was specifically drawn to the piece that she did for the theme "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". I loved it! It was simple & wild. And the stripes were done so well! Unlike the ones I did on my nails, they look like squiggly lines, hahah!

Here is Shelley's piece she did at ABA! Pretty cool, isn't?!
How did I do with my nails in comparison to this look? Tell me what you think!

April 2014 ipsy glam bag

"Life is a dance floor, so why not live it up, sing out loud, and shake them hips?!"

This month's theme is "Beauty Rocks" to celebrate the unique beauty of sounds and tunes for the current and upcoming music festivals in the springtime. After being cooped up inside for the couple of months due to nasty winter blues, it is time to bring out the bold & fun colors for spring! Hasta la vista winter!

Urban Decay|24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet (travel size)

"Ideal of smokey-eye fanatics.." Shut up and take my money! If you know me at all, I'm all for smokey eyes! I already have this particular eye pencil from the Urban Decay Anarchy Face Case, and its amazeballs! This product has extra powder making it easily blendable into a soft, matte finish. It glides on smoothly adding definition to rimmed eyes. Water-proof, holla! It's so perfect that it's on the top of my list for best eye liners!

Random fact about me: I have monolids so I tend to use a lot of eye liner in order for people to even realize I have some on! So much eye liner to the point where when I close my eyes and there is that dreaded appearance of the "black hole" on my eye, LOL!

Cailyn|Tinted Lip Balm in Apple Pink (0.4 oz)

First impression, I didn't think I would like it because it was a light salmon color. Having pigmented lips, light shades are difficult to flaunt. Sometimes it would show up orange or make my lips appear extremely fuller. This lip balm surprised me because it was worked so well for my skin color and lips. Because of my dark colored lips, the color came out as a subtle coral! Not too orange. Probably the first light shade of lip color I approve of. Long lasting too! The application was smooth & light, but noticed that it dried into a matte finish, which is a down fall because it really defined the wrinkles on my lip even more. Luckily, I had some clear gloss and applied a bit on top of the balm to give it some shine!

Elizabeth Mott|pop! goes the shadow in Champagne (2 g)

The plus side of having a shimmery neutral eye shadow color is that I can use it as a highlighter, especially on my cheeks or brow bone.
Down side is that's probably what I'll only be using it for. It's really similar to "DUST" in the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, which is what I use for highlights. Besides, it's my second time receiving a neutral eye shadow from Ipsy - hopefully along the road, I'll get to experiment with daring, exciting colors.

dr.brandt|microdermabrasion (7.5 g)
"gently sweeps away dead skin cells and softens skin texture, which enables better absorption of skin care products and helps diminish the appearance of fine lines, acne marks, and skin discolorations..."
Perfect product, perfect timing! Spring is the season of new beginnings, so why not take this time to start fresh & clean? Out with the old and in with the new! I tried this with my Olay Pro-X 3-speed facial cleansing brush on the highest speed (microderm setting) with the microdermabrasion foam head & it worked wonders! Immediately, I noticed a more youthful and brighter complexion. My skin has always been dull with dry patches which can be really noticeable with make up on, but with this advanced cleansing system, it made me feel more confident and comfortable. ANDDDD my make up doesn't flake around my nose and forehead any more! Big thumbs up!

Sexy Hair|Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse (1.6 oz)

What girl does NOT want volume in their hair?! This is by far the best volumizing spray ever & trust me, I've tried many products before but it never gave me the results I wanted. I have really thick hair and oily roots, it weighs everything down leaving my hair lifeless and limp. There is just SOOO many problems with my hair, I pretty much gave up on it. But when I pulled out this spray out of my glam bag, it was definitly enticing. First thing I noticed, .."big sexy hair" HELL YA, I want big sexy hair! & behold its alive!! Not only does it provide the phenomenal lift and fullness, it smells good too! Definitely recommend.
Every bag I receive, I'll be doing a finished look using majority of the products in this month's glam bag! I even used items from the previous months! Sorry for the bad picture quality, I couldn't wait to create this look in the morning, so I did it at night. Some products aren't even noticeable in indoor lighting. Darn lighting doesn't do me justice..har har. I'll be patient next time.

Products I am using from Ipsy:
Eyeliner: Chella Indigo Blue Eyeliner (top)
Urban Decay 24/7 Velvel Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet (bottom)
Cheeks: City Color Be Matte Blush in Fresh Melon

Highlights: Elizabeth Mott pop! goes the shadow in Champagne

Lip: Caitlyn Tinted Lip Balm in Apple Pink
Hair: Sexy Hair Root Pump Volumizing Spray Mousse

a little piece of me - Q&A

What four things are most important in your life?
Cultivating the ability to make people happy

What do you do when you are alone?
Catch up on my tv series, filling in my Q&A a day journal & experimenting with nail polish and makeup. Nothing big :)

What do you think about when you can’t fall asleep?
Lie down in bed reminiscing the past or thinking ahead in the future on how my life will be. Play Candy Crush and 2048.

When do you feel sad?
I feel sad when no one listens to me. Not like a spoiled brat but as an individual. My whole life I've been looking after my family or friends and doing what makes them happy. But when its the things that I want, it's never acknowledged. No one usually cares how I feel..

Complete this statement: Love is …..
Love is making the best of what life throws at you, especially enjoying the simple things together..

What talents do you have?
I'm usually hard on myself & don't know whether I'm good at something or not. I don't compare myself to others nor do I have an idea of what is "good." What if I had my own perspective of good and boasted about my talents or skills, but in reality, I'm not good at all, only mediocre? The only natural talent I think I have is being a good listener.

When do you get angry?
I get angry when people lie. I pay attention to every little details, so when I catch people in their lie, I often bottle it up. I won't lash out on the person but deep down, I'll always question why they did or said it.

Describe the “Perfect Husband”.
Loyal, supportive towards his friends and family, a great leader, active parent, clever with a great sense of humour, he loves my parents, trustworthy, always there by my side, similar aspects in life yet different to make it interesting & he loves me for me.

Describe the “Perfect Wife”.
Same as above. My marriage - everyone is equal.

Describe your life at age 70.
Retired & living with my significant other. Healthy. Travel to places. Babysit my grandkids while my children are making a living. Have frequent family dinners.

What kind of trophy would you like to win?
Hmmm, thats a tricky question. No preference, hahah.

Write down three words to describe how you feel right now.

How would you change the world to make it better, if you had enough power?
If I had enough power to change the world to make it better, it would be that if you hurt another person, you too must feel their pain, physically and mentally. Today, many people cause pain just because of their selfish greed, such as sex, love, kindness, money. A lot of people tend to take things for granted and it needs to change. Try seeing things in other's perspective.

What would you like to invent to make life better?
I would invent a treadmill with a laptop built in it, unless you're walking the internet won't work. Of course, it will have sensors to detect that you're walking and no way to being sneaky by having the machine on. & if you wanted to download a file, music, video, etc., you would have the run. The faster you run, the faster the download will be. I WANT ONE. I NEED ONE. That is literally my entire day put into one machine. LOL

What qualities do you look for in a friend?
Trustworthy. Its all about the trust.

What is the best advice you ever received?
"Don't let anyone change you."

If you could take only 3 people with you on a trip around the world, whom would you take?
Significant other & my parents. :)

What kind of store would you like to own and operate?
BOOK STORE. I love books. There is just so many information and knowledge all in one place. It's brilliant! When I was young, I dreamed of becoming a librarian and even made my own library book tags, so I can stamp the return date on it. I've also applied to Chapters & Indigo repeatedly in my teen years, but unfortunately they never hired me.

If you could become invisible, where would you like to go?
Haunt and mess with the bad people. They deserve it!

What three things are you thankful for?
I am thankful for having a family who will always be there for me. Even when they can be too overbearing.
I am thankful for having friends who respect me and will always be there for me. Through thick and thin. Never being judgemental.
I am thankful for life. To be able to live and experience all of the wonderful and painful things that makes life as it is. To be able to make my own mistakes and learn from them.

Nom Nom Review ~ Over Easy Breakfast

Address: 824 Edmonton Trail Northeast

Price Range: $6.00-$17.00
Urbanspoon Rating: 91%

Serves breakfast & brunch

This was my first time going to OEB, was my first diner experience! I don't often eat out or try new places because I want to save money (typical me..) and/or I don't have the guts to try different cuisines. This time it was different - since it was after my birthday, I decided to spoil myself, hehehe. I know, diners aren't so special & it's "all the same", but to me, this was going to be good! I'm always used to eating the same thing over and over again. I thought I needed a change!  Besides, this will be a whole new experience for my taste buds!

When my friend and I arrived at this diner, we were greeted by a young man, who kindly asked us for our names & for how many. The wait was approximately 10-15 minutes or so, which wasn't too bad considering the fact that it was lunch time. However, I suggest going early to beat the long queue during peak hours & weekends. There wasn't much of a waiting area, so we were all bundled up at the entrance, but what do you expect from a small diner?
Appearance wise - the tables were a little tight, but it didn't seem like any one mind it at all. There was a modern atmosphere & the interior was retro-inspired, which I thought was pretty awesome because it wasn't a "typical" setting as you see on TV. Everyone was laughing & smiling. With that, the whole place just gave off a nice & relaxing aura because it felt like everyone was enjoying each other's presence!

Now here comes the problem! Being someone who has never been to a diner before and eats the same things every day, what do I choose?! Hahaha

Sooo many good choices, ranging from bennies to sweet cravings, they had them all & I wanted them all! I wanted to try a bit of everything, something with fruits, potato wedges and toast. So I decided on one of their BLUE PLATE SPECIAL called "Breakfast in Tuscany".
Breakfast in Tuscany - Two poached eggs, sun-dried tomatoes, San Daniele prosciutto, rye bread, herb potatoes & fresh fruit

Yummmmmy! Good choice for a newbie! This dish was delicious! I absolutely enjoy poached eggs & bennies, but I dislike Hollandaise sauce. Without hollandaise sauce, bennies tastes bland. So this dish was perfect for me, the prosciutto & sun-dried tomatoes definitely added a kick to it! I've never tried prosciutto before until dining at OEB, nor do I know how to pronounce it, fail. I've seen it being sold at grocery storse but never knew what it was for. Next time, I'm definitely buying some!
Potatoes, the one food I can't cut out. The herbed potatoes were perfectly seasoned and moist. Just how I love them. I could eat those all day & every day. Accompanied by the potatoes were fresh fruit, how could any one say no to that?

Overall, this nestled small diner was a delight! Way beyond my expectations! Service was excellent, atmosphere was pleasant & everything was fresh & cooked to perfection. Yummy breakfast! Highly recommended!

March 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag

It's been long overdue for my "first look" with the Glam Bag by Ipsy!
Being an Ipsy subscriber for 4 months, I have not once been disappointed! Besides, being hopelessly in love with makeup, this gives me the opportunity to try new products and experiment with different colors.

Revealing the products!

This month's theme is "Destination Beauty" and it's all about travel. "Exotic beaches or a simple stay-cation - what beautiful destination is your March Glam Bag getting ready for?"

 Exclusive ipsy makeup bag

The print of this makeup bag is a selection from artist, Klari Reis' geography-based series, "Street Anatomy" where she showcases this series and others in San Francisco, CA

I really like this one! Probably one of my favorite bags I've received. Its unique & different. Bright and colourful. Not like any out there, such as leopard print, zebra print, pink, purple, bows, cute. Just as ipsy say, "we believe inspiration comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, mediums, and textiles.." Besides, this month's feature on Klari Reis is one of many in ipsy's new Artist Series & I can't wait to see what they bring!

Pixi Beauty - Flawless Beauty Primer (12 ml)

The first time I was introduced to the Pixi Beauty line was from my very first glam bag back in November 2013. Personally, I love the eyeshadows, liners, and all that, but I wasn't the fan of the primer. For my skin, all primers do not work for me. My face feels greasy right after I apply it & my foundation will easily rub off onto my fingers or brushes, which results in cakey makeup. (eww..haha) Lots of makeup artists at beauty stores or review online suggests that primer is the key to rid of the cakiness, but for some odd reason, primer does not do me justice at all & without primer, my makeup looks great! I don't know it's because I'm not exfoliating enough, or my moisturizer isn't for me, I don't know and I wish I knew why! =(

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in ``Get Ready`` (1.5 g)

The color is a shade of rosy pink, which is similar to my preferred color for lipstick. The application was very smooth & the texture was very creamy. Ultra-pigmented! It gives full coverage with a rich, satin finish. It also gives the appearance of fuller lips and a healthy-looking pout. Although, some say its very moisturising, I feel as though it did the opposite. At first, it somewhat helped keep my lips moist for like a good hour or so, then it started to dry out my lips, which I did not like at all. My lips are already dry as it is, so I really did not need something on top of that to trigger it more. In the end, it is a promising product and I would try it again but only if the condition of my lips was a lot better. Hahaha

Chella - Eyeliner Pen in "Indigo Blue" (full size)

Best eyeliner ever!
It claims to:
          - lasts all day
          - water-resistant
          - smudge proof
          - quick drying, no feathering
& I couldn't agree more! Very pigmented, does not stain, and it provides a high-intensity eye look that literally lasts all day. Usually, I apply black liner to my lower lash lines and it always smudges, which requires me to rub it with my fingers & by the time the day is over, I'm left with barely any remaining! =( This time, I decided to be a little bold and apply Chella`s indigo blue & boyyy, was I ever satisfied. Not only did it not smudge, it lasted all day, no flaws, nothing! I haven`t been this happy with a product in a very long time! Very impressed.

NYX - Love in Rio Eye Shadow (full size)
Another addition to my collection of eye shadow palettes! The packaging is the slightly the same as the other eye shadows, but with a simple bow to add a little to its appearance. It comes with three natural nudes colors and is very pigmented. With such simple colors, it can be used to create a "casual look" for the day but enough for a "sultry smokey look" for the night. Plus, its travel-sized, so you can easily put it in your purse or makeup bag & reapply when needed! Very convenient, right?

Overall, this month`s glam bag was a success! One of the reasons why I love ipsy and their glam bags is that I get to be creative & use my imagination to create a whole look using the products they have given me. Hopefully next time, I can think outside the box and apply my skills into doing something more, hahah. =)

fitness update

Hello again! It's been awhile since I updated my fitness journey, but then again, I haven't blogged for a long time. This time, no excuses!! :)

My journey to a healthier lifestyle started in October 2013, when my brother and I made a bet as a goal to lose weight. I know you guys are thinking that I shouldn't let money be the reason to motivate me to be healthy because we all know, ahem..MONEY IS EVIL!! LOL. Once I reach my goal weight and win the bet, the first thing I would do with the money is buy a cute new outfit -- if you got it, flaunt it!

Anyways, the first two months was easy, I simply cut out junk food and sugary drinks, work out at the gym 1-2 times a week & started to drink more water and tea. Watching what I ate and the portions allowed me to lose 10 lbs. After that, things went downhill, I was plateau for one month, which made me feel disappointed in myself. LE SIGH. I was too tired and lazy to go to the gym and I was making poor decisions for my meals and snacks. BIG NO-NO. I kept gaining some of the weight back and then losing it & I just didn't know what to do. I felt like I was a failure with no progress to show. So I thought "Maybe, if I invested on a food diary and calculate my calorie intake and consumption of water, it could work..?" Huzzah! There was progress! I felt in control of what was going into my body and more energized each day. I noticed my body was gradually slimming down by taking progress photos and going to the gym 4-5 times a week. In total, I lost 16 lbs. Boy, was I ever glad! I started feeling happy about myself and with that, I was, again, motivated to complete my mission to good health.

However, I am still fairly new at this and have a lot to research about my body type and what kind of diet I should be on. I really hope that when I post my next fitness update, I'll have more information I can share with you. Any advices are welcome, please comment! I would definitely love to hear them! =)

diy nail polish rack

Gooood afternooon! I wanted to share with you a finished project that I starting in spring but didn't finish it until last week with the assistance of my dad! Hurray for SuperDad! HAHA, DIY NAIL POLISH RACK! I've seen many on the internet made with foam and decorating tape and it makes me wonder~ omggg, is that safe for long period of time?! So I eventually stumbled upon an YouTube video by dulcecandy87 and she made her nail polish rack from wood. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

When I went to Home Depot, they didn't have any pre-cut hobby boards that I wanted. All they had were thick & stubby ones, which I knew would definitely add some extra weight to the rack.
So in the end, I bought THREE large pre-cut panels (24" x 36") and had to cut it myself to the desired length. If you don't have any cutting tools, Home Depot offers to cut it for you, but of course, extra fee applies & depending how much pieces you need cut, it can get pretty pricey!

The tools & supplies I used:
10 - 2" x 24" boards for the shelf
2 - 2.5" x 36"boards for the sides (I noticed in dulcecandy87's video that her shelf boards were sticking out and the sides were too short, so I added 0.5" to the sides hopefully it would match up.)
1 - 24" x 36" back board
Nail gun, if not available, hot glue and gorilla glue would work.
Elmer's Wood Glue
Blue interior paint
Plastic Anchors

After gathering all my tools & supplies, I followed the rest of the steps from the Youtube above. & VOILA, here is my lovely nail polish board, all pretty and such. :)
